Many customer agree if this is the best Confessions of a High School Word Nerd: Laugh Your Gluteus* Off and Increase Your SAT Verbal Score (by Penguin) :
Word Nerd Mania. Good book. Its required for more than one scholarship and its funny besides. Don't know if it'll help with SAT, but worth the cost.
Laugh Your Gluteus Off. A good review for SAT's, this was required summer reading for sophomore year. It made learning fun though as the confessions, which included important vocabulary words, were interesting stories to which students could relate. My personal favorite confession was about a girl learning to drive.
BEST vocabulary prep book. I'm 17 and about to be a senior. This book is one of the best book I have read. It's fun and educational (usually this 2 adjectives doesn't fit together, but this book made it possible). I think I'm very prepared for many vocabs that the ACT or SAT will throw at me. This book had different stories that you can all relate to. From being a diligent kisser to being a ghetto super socca star. It's all confessions. You think--dang, these are actually kids, and I'm going through the same (some what) thing as they are! And look at where they are now- Yale graduates what now. To be cliche--this book puts the fun in fundamental and enjoyable read that you will laugh your gluteus off!

Every year, 9 million American students expend large amounts of time and energy preparing for proficiency and entrance exams like the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and SSAT with a heap of vocabulary flash cards and a fat volume of repetitive practice tests. Each one of them, along with their parents and teachers, wishes that there was a less painful way to prepare for test day. There is, and this book is the solution: a collection of ten well-written, entertaining essays by recent college-graduates-turned-writers that honestly and amusingly recount wild, traumatizing, and hilarious high-school events, using common SAT words as a study tool. (*gluteus: any of the large muscles of the buttocks; esp: gluteus maximus)
